Be cunning, play clever, and become versed in craps the proper way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Modern craps developed from the old Anglo game called Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the birth of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been invented by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It’s theorized that Sir William’s horsemen wagered on Hazard through a siege on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the fortification’s name.

Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when expelled by the English, the French moved down south and discovered sanctuary in the south of Louisiana where they eventually became Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they brought their favored game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns changed the title to craps, which is gotten from the term for the bad luck toss of 2 in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi river boats and across the nation. Many think the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In 1907, Winn designed the modern craps setup. He created the Do not Pass line so gamblers could wager on the dice to not win. At another time, he created the spaces for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
