Be smart, play cunning, and master craps the right way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately 100 years old. Current craps come about from the old Anglo game referred to as Hazard. No one knows for certain the beginnings of the game, but Hazard is said to have been invented by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It is supposed that Sir William’s horsemen gambled on Hazard through a blockade on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the fortification’s name.

Early French colonizers imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 18th century, when displaced by the English, the French headed south and found sanctuary in the south of Louisiana where they at a later time became known as Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they brought their preferred game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it fair mathematically. It’s said that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which was gotten from the name of the non-winning toss of two in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi scows and across the country. A few acknowledge the dice maker John H. Winn as the father of modern craps. In 1907, Winn developed the modern craps setup. He added the Don’t Pass line so gamblers can wager on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he designed the spaces for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
