Be clever, play clever, and pickup craps the correct way!

Dice and dice games date all the way back to the Crusades, but modern craps is just about a century old. Modern craps evolved from the old Anglo game called Hazard. No one knows for certain the birth of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been created by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the 12th century. It is supposed that Sir William’s paladins gambled on Hazard amid a blockade on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the fortress’s name.

Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when banished by the British, the French relocated down south and discovered refuge in southern Louisiana where they a while later became Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they brought their preferred game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is believed that the Cajuns adjusted the title to craps, which is gotten from the name of the non-winning throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi riverboats and all over the nation. Many consider the dice maker John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In 1907, Winn assembled the modern craps layout. He appended the Do not Pass line so gamblers can bet on the dice to lose. At another time, he developed the boxes for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
