Be clever, play clever, and pickup craps the correct way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves date back to the Crusades, but current craps is just about one hundred years old. Modern craps formed from the old Anglo game referred to as Hazard. No one knows for certain the origin of the game, however Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the 12th century. It is presumed that Sir William’s paladins gambled on Hazard amid a siege on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the citadel’s name.

Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Canada. In the 18th century, when displaced by the English, the French headed south and discovered refuge in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns changed the title to craps, which was acquired from the term for the non-winning toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi scows and across the nation. A great many think the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn created the current craps setup. He put in place the Don’t Pass line so gamblers can wager on the dice to not win. Later, he developed the spots for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
